The EXAKT System was developed to prepare very thin sections of hard materials including metal implants.
Light polymerising resin
- Infiltrates the samples and maintains fine structure of samples.
- Is hardened by high intensity light.
Cutting System
- Slides are attached to samples in a parallel manner which allows precise sections to be cut.
- A diamond coated cutting band is used which can cut through very hard materials including stainless steel, titanium and tungsten implants.
- The cutting action preserves the interface between hard and soft materials.
- Cutting Point Technology reduces force needed to cut sample, so reduces damage to sample.
Precision Grinders
- Grinding method produces perfectly flat sections of even thickness. Sections are ground in a controlled manner and to a predetermined thickness.
- Sections are measured during the grinding process allowing precise control.
- The minimum thickness of a ground and polished section is approximately 15µm or 50µm for sections containing metal implants.
- Sections are polished to remove any scratches resulting in a high quality finish.
Polished sections can be stained to highlight different components within the sample.
Sections are then viewed under a microscope and images can be captured for later analysis.
